The DC14 Apprenticeship Program Drywall Finishers is a two (2) year program sponsored by Painter District Council #14 and Midwest Wall and Ceiling Contractors. Apprentices learn the trade while working on the job for a union contractor four days a week. They attend 236 hours of classroom instruction, for each year of training one day a week for 8 hours per day for a total of 59 weeks. Upon Completion of the term of two (2) years or four thousand (4000) hours whichever occurs later, the Taper Apprentice will then step into the rank of Journeyman.
Apprentice wages increase from 40% of the Journeyman Scale and work up to 100%. Completing all training requirements satisfactory for graduation, the successful Apprentice becomes a journeyman and is paid full wages. All benefits that are currently paid for Journeypersons shall be paid for Apprentices beginning with the first day of employment while serving their 90 day probation period.
