PROCEDURES FOR APPLICANTS

1. All applicants should visit the Finishing Trades Institute of DC 14 Chicago website at https://www.FTICHI.org and select the “Application” button on the home page. Should you need assistance, feel free to call the office at (708) 449-5282. We are available Monday through Friday from 7am and 3pm.

2. The application is completed at the Apprenticeship facility located at 1101 N. Taft Avenue, Berkeley, IL 60163. There will be a non-refundable twenty-five-dollar ($25.00) application fee required, in the form of a money order payable to the Chicago Area Painting & Decorating JATC. The twenty-five-dollar money order is not required for Drywall Finishing applicants.

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPLICATION APPOINTMENT. PER RESTRICTIONS FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, NO EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE.

ALL ITEMS LISTED MUST BE PRESENTED FOR VERIFICATION, AND ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINAL!

3. For your own safety and education, you must be able to communicate in English. Ability to read, write and speak the English language well enough so as not to need an interpreter. If an applicant is not able to speak English, conversational English classes will be paid for provided the applicant passes the course.

4. With the above steps completed, the applicant is issued a list of UNION PAINTING CONTRACTORS, who follow fair employment practices. This list can also be found at www.pdc14.com on the “Contractors” tab.

5. When the applicant is hired, he/she must return to the Apprenticeship school, PRIOR TO WORKING, with a letter of INTENT TO HIRE from the Contractor, stating the Apprentice name, address, telephone number, social security number, and the starting date of employment, pending drug test results.

6. The Applicant must pay a $60.00 Drug Test Fee (money order only) and take a drug test prior to receiving a work permit. Upon passing the drug test, the applicant will be reimbursed for the amount of the drug test. The applicant must take the drug test within forty-eight (48) hours or two (2) working days, after presenting the letter of intent. If an applicant fails the drug test, the applicant will be able to re-apply in six (6) months.

7. A four-hundred-nineteen-dollar ($419.00) permit fee (subject to adjustment), MONEY ORDER ONLY, made payable to Painters District Council #14, is required. THIS FEE IS NOT REFUNDABLE. A UNION WORK PERMIT is then issued by Painters District Council #14, located at 1456 W. Adams Ave., Chicago, IL 60607. The permit will cover the Apprentice during the 90-DAY PROBATIONARY PERIOD. Students must notify the Apprenticeship school upon completion of 90-days.

8. There will be no written test.

9. The eligible applicant will be interviewed by the Finishing Trades Institute of DC 14 Chicago.
